Powerhouse Community Concert Benefitting Durango Nordic: Petrichor
Durango Nordic has been selected as one of 10 nonprofits to benefit from this summer’s Powerhouse Concert Series. Our concert will be on July 15th and our band is Durango favorite, Petrichor.
Running Biathlon
Running biathlon is sport for those who thrive on challenge. It combines two completely different disciplines: the heart-pounding exertion of running and the Zen-like focus of precision shooting.
Durango Nordic’s running biathlon will take place on our trails at the Durango Nordic Center, and all shooting will be done with Durango Nordic’s laser biathlon rifle systems. There is no ammunition in laser rifles; however, participants will be taught rifle safety as a fundamental skill for this sport.
This event will be a pursuit style race of 1 lap with 3 shooting stages, of 5 shots each, along the route. Each missed shot will result in a time penalty (No penalty laps in this race). The lap length will be 3-5km depending on age group. The person with the fastest time, after adding in penalty shot times, wins the race. Participants will start in a random order, separated by 30 seconds for each racer.
Cost: $10 for kids & $20 for adults
Schedule:
8-8:30am = In-Person Registration
8:30-9am = Intro to biathlon & laser rifles, then individual practice
9am-12:30pm (or longer depending on number of participants)= Races by age groups, starting with the youngest
Distance: 3km for kids, 5km for adults
Location: Durango Nordic Center, 49786 Hwy 550, Durango CO, 81301
Stay tuned for additional details!
Mountain Bike Biathlon with Durango DEVO
Durango Nordic is teaming up with Durango DEVO to host Durango’s first ever mountain bike biathlon event on Saturday August 15th. No experience necessary to participate but plan on learning a cool new sport and having a blast! BYOBike required and laser biathlon rifles will be provided.
This event will be held at the FLC Factory Trails surrounding Animas High School. Each race will be a mass start by age group, consisting of bike lap-shoot-bike lap-shoot-bike lap. Any missed shots will require a short penalty lap to be ridden. The total race length will be about 15 minutes of riding time, so the laps will be about 5 minutes each. First person across the finish line wins the race, so ride fast and try not to miss any shots since the penalty laps will make your race longer.
Cost: $10 for kids & $20 for adults (proceeds benefit Durango Nordic & Durango DEVO)
Schedule:
8:30-9am = In-Person Registration
9-10am = Intro to biathlon & laser rifles, then individual practice
10am-1pm (or longer depending on number of participants) = Races by age groups, starting with the youngest
Location: Animas High School - 22 Osprey Way
Note: Each participant must sign a waiver during registration, and must wear a helmet during race

RELOCATED to Granby: Mike Elliott Youth Festival (U14) at the Stampeded Nordic Race
Following Rocky Mountain Nordic policy, we had to make the decision to relocate this event in advance of the scheduled date when we still did not have enough snow at Durango Nordic Center to groom and open our trails. In true Colorado Nordic spirit, multiple Nordic Clubs stepped up with proposals to host the Mike Elliott Youth Festival in honor of our very own Olympian, Mike Elliott.
